Our Story

From Yongchun, a story carried by scent

A fragrance can connect a place, a craft and a way of spending time. The story of ZHONGHE GONG ZAO begins with those connections—and finds its next chapter in everyday life.

A place to begin

Yongchun, in Fujian, sits at the heart of the brand’s account. Its introduction traces an incense-making lineage to the Pu family: descendants of Arab ancestors who settled in Quanzhou during the Song dynasty and later moved to Hankou village in Dapu, Yongchun, around the transition from the Ming to the Qing. As people moved, recipes, blending knowledge and incense-making skills took root in a new setting.

In this account, fragrance carries more than a sense of place. It holds a thread of maritime cultural exchange. Bringing the collection to the UAE, we hope to make room for that connection today: an invitation to encounter Chinese incense culture through an experience that can find a place in many different homes.

1998 · A name within the tradition

The supplied brand introduction dates its beginnings to 1998 and connects that chapter with incense maker Yao Chaozhuan, described there as a 29th-generation inheritor of the Pu family’s Yongchun tradition. A craft is carried forward through people: through the ways its recipes and techniques remain in use, are understood and continue to develop.

Yao’s place in the brand’s early story offers a human connection to that longer tradition. It is the story of the craft behind the collection, giving context to the fragrance before a first incense ritual begins.

A craft that continues to take shape

The brand describes more than three centuries of inherited and adapted recipes, blends and techniques. Its account encompasses bamboo-core incense, sticks and coils, followed by an expansion into agarwood products. Forms change, while materials, blending and the intended way of using a fragrance remain useful starting points for understanding the craft.

We value that heritage and want it to feel approachable. You do not need to learn every term before enjoying fragrance. Begin with a form that suits you, understand how and where it is used, and take time to notice its relationship with the space around you.

Different forms for different moments

For some, the pleasure begins with incense slowly lending its scent to a room. Others prefer an experience without lighting incense, exploring oil or balm at a closer distance. Each format has a different texture and method, offering a different way into the experience.

Our collection centres on enjoying and using fragrance: scent in the room, aroma close at hand and a ritual that fits your day. We explain formats, specifications and intended use so that your choice can begin with your own habits, rather than an unfamiliar name alone.

Respect the origins

Present the people and traditions described in the brand material with context and care.

Make the method clear

Connect each fragrance format with suitable accessories and its own instructions.

Keep it close to life

Begin simply, in a small amount, at a pace that suits your space and your day.

A moment of your own

A cleared desk before reading, a corner prepared for a guest, or a pause when the day’s tasks are done: any of these can become a place to begin. Fragrance need not be another task on a crowded schedule. It can be a gentle reason to slow down and pay attention to your surroundings and your own experience.

This is the everyday incense culture we hope to share: a sense of origin, a living craft and a place in the present. The story begins in Yongchun. Its next chapter belongs to each person who starts to discover the scent.

Names, dates and family history are drawn from the supplied ZHONGHE GONG ZAO brand introduction, particularly its development and brand-story sections. Historical details reflect the brand’s own account.
